The
Grantham Pump at the corner of South
Fourth and Woodall streets was one of
several at groundwater wells installed in
Smithfield to serve residents prior to the
building of the town's first waterworks in
1913. The pump house was added in
1976, but the pump is no longer in
service.

Boone
Trail Highway marker was originally
erected in front of Smithfield School on South
Third Street in 1929 in celebration of North
Carolina's development of a statewide road
system. It fell into disrepair some years ago
but was rebuilt with the original plaque in
2009.
