MIRACLE LEAGUE FIELD IN PLAY AGAIN Part of a project
spearheaded by the Johnston County
Partnership for Children, this specially
designed softball field at Smithfield
Community Park is the place for weekly games
for severely handicapped youngsters.
Entering their second season here, the games
are organized by the Miracle League of
Johnston County and involve scores of
volunteers who help the children navigate
the rubberized playing "diamond." It's
located near the Community Park's main
entrance, just across a parking lot from the
"inclusion park" that was also built as part
of the Partnership's project, which drew
support from individual and business donors
in addition to grants from the State of
North Carolina and appropriations from the
Town of Smithfield.

A
MESSAGE FROM HADLEY LEE, EVENT COORDINATOR
The third
annual #SSStrong Community Day will be held on
Saturday, May 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. The mission is
simple: To bring the Smithfield-Selma communities
together for a celebration complete with entertainment
by school groups, special vendors sharing information
about community resources, exhibits, and fun
activities.
Admission, food, inflatables, games, and all events are FREE! This fun and exciting event will be held on the football field at SSS High School. #SSStrong stands for Smithfield-Selma Strong. It means that the indisputable success of the students in our schools in the Smithfield-Selma area depends on the shared belief that we all play a part. It's a joint effort between the schools and the community to provide these students with the resources and support they need to be successful. Together, we can make a difference. |
