Smithfield's "NATIONAL NIGHT OUT" . . .
Policemen gather with residents to make
photographic souvenirs of Tuesday evening's
"National Night Out" observance, held in the
main parking lot at Johnston Community College.
Besides the Smithfield Police Department, other
agencies taking part in the event included the
Army National Guard, N.C. HIghway Patrol,
Johnston County Probation and Parole, Johnston
County EMS and Sheriff's departments, municipal
police departments from Selma, Four Oaks, and
Princeton, and the Selma and Smithfield fire
departments.
Among the "fun and games" offered free of charge was a dunking booth where youngsters could toss a softball at a large button that would dump a "favorite officer" into the drink. In the sequence below, the little daughter of Probation and Parole Officer Ryan Massengill finally "gets her man" (with a little help):
