LEGISLATIVE REDISTRICTING

The North Carolina General Assembly has revised districts for electing members of both its Senate and House of Representatives as ordered by a panel of three state judges who unanimously agreed with plaintiffs that existing districts are unconstitutional. The new districts were upheld by those same judges this week after further review.

The new Senate map on the
left changes district boundaries within Johnston
County, apparently moving Smithfield from the 10th
District into a revised 11th District including
Smithfield and north-central Johnston with all of
Nash County.

unchanged. Smithfield remains divided into two
districts: the 26th represented by Donna White, the
28th by Larry Strickland.
